NC ARTS COUNCIL TOURING ARTIST DIRECTORY 2012-2014

We are honored to announce that The Cloers have received notice from the NC Arts Council that we were selected to be in the North Carolina Touring Artist Directory for 2012-2014. The Directory is a juried listing of professional, individual performing, visual, and literary artists and performing groups who are available to present performances and conduct workshops and residencies throughout North Carolina. The Directory is used by presenters such as arts centers, colleges and universities, festivals, arts councils, schools, civic organizations, and other groups that hire artists to work within their communities. We are overwhelmed by the possibilites that being in this Directory will bring. Thank you, NC Arts Council for believing in our work and for supporting individual artists in North Carolina.

THE CLOERS PLAY FIRST NIGHT CHARLOTTE, 2012

We had the best New Year's Eve ever in beautiful, Charlotte, NC. We have always wanted to play Charlotte's First Night, and were so honored to have been asked to be part of this event this year. We played several sets at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and had a great time celebrating the new year with all of the folks who came by to hear the music. Thank you, Center City Partners for inviting us and we look forward to First Night 2013!

HARD WORK PAYS OFF FOR MARRIED DUO

By: CW Editor-Chris Montgomery

I spent two weeks with John and Cate Cloer inside my Volkswagon bus. It was actually their CD.

Each of the compositions, well-written and acoustically sound, brought a fresh approach to telling age-old stories. “Wanderlust” is a good example of their synergy. The Cloers make capturing familiar moods and feelings sound so easy.

“I’m so eaten up with wanderlust, I can’t put down any roots/ In one place too long, I itch to move on, dust off my walkin’ shoes/ Everyone wonders when we’ll settle down/ And find ourselves a sleepy, little town… I don’t need a lot of things, they only rust/ All I really need, is to chase the wanderlust.”

THE CLOERS CONDUCT SONGWRITING SEMINAR FOR SPARK

We had a great time teaching our songwriting seminar for the SparkCon festival in Raleigh, NC.  This was one of our first times presenting a seminar called "Consistency and Variation: Keep it the same, but different", and it went really well! If you live in the Raleigh, NC area, this is a great event that is held downtown each year.

THE CLOERS PLAY CHARLOTTE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL

We enjoyed playing the Charlotte Shakespeare Festival this year. There is nothing like an outdoor performance of Shakespeare by the Collaborative Arts Theatre! Thanks, guys for inviting us. We'll see you next year!

THE CLOERS PLAY BEATLES TRIBUTE AT KNIGHT THEATER

What an AMAZING night!! We were overjoyed to have been asked to take part in theTosco Music Beatles Tribute Night. Every year, John Tosco and the gang host a Beatles Tribute along with the other 3 regular acoustic music shows that are held throughout the year. We have always wanted to play this show, so we jumped at the chance when asked. On June 18th, we played to a sold out audience of 1200 people at the beautiful Knight Theater in Charlotte, NC. The premise of the night is that 15 or so acts are asked to choose a Beatles tune, and either rework it or just do the best rendition of it that they can. Each artist is allowed to choose their own song, so we chose, Get Back. John came up with a really swampy, Celtic sounding arrangement where I could play concertina. The audience seemed to love it, and we were estactic about getting to be on that stage with all of the other amazing performers. This event was definitely one of it not THE highlight of our musical year this year. Whether we play it again or not, I hope you all will go next year and check out the show. It is absolutely one not to be missed. Thank you to Melissa D. for sending us this video that she took on her phone. We love having this memory to be able to go back and see time and time again. Enjoy!

THE CLOERS AT BUSKAPALOOZA II & WORLD BUSK DAY

We had a big ole' time participating in Buskapalooza, Charlotte!. We learned a lot about how to properly busk in our city thanks to a lot of hard work by organizer and filmaker, April Denee. April is currently producing Busk! a documentary about street performance. The Cloers will be featured in the upcoming documentary as well! We'll have more news on that in 2012.

THE CLOERS ATTEND AND HOST A SHOWCASE AT SERFA

Well, we seriously have no idea how to do things half-way, so we attended and hosted a showcase room at our very first SERFA. It was so much work, but we had wonderful time. We performed at The Cloers Present... showcase each night of the 3 day conference, and plan to go back next year. We had so many wonderful artists who showcased in our room, and feel humbled that they wanted to be part of the showcase we presented. For all you performing songwriters, the South East Regional Folk Alliance was held in beautiful Montreat, NC, and it will be hosted there again in 2012. Come join us next year!

THE CLOERS AT MERLEFEST

We were honored to be asked to come to Merlefest by the Wilkes Acoustic Folk Society and to host a Songwriters in the Round style event for 3 days at the Anything Goes Tent. It was such a great experience to see everyone come out and sit under the tent and play music for hours. So many young players came out on Saturday to show us what they had been working on, and we played everything from traditional bluegrass to Coldplay. One of the highlights of the weekend was getting to play on the Austin Stage for the Songwriters Coffeehouse on Friday night, and getting to perform on the Plaza Stage on Saturday afternoon.

THE CLOERS PLAY THE TOSCO MUSIC PARTY

The Cloers at the Jan/2011 Tosco Music Party

We were so happy to have been invited by John Tosco to play the Tosco Music Party (TMP)! The TMP has built a reputation of having a talented and entertaining line-up of acoustic music artists.  TMP takes place 3 times a year at the Halton Theater, Charlotte, NC and is almost always a sell out event. (view blog post)

THE CLOERS IN CHARLOTTE FOLK SOCIETY DOCUMENTARY

We were so excited to learn that a performance that we did for the Charlotte Folk Society Gathering last year was recorded, and a small clip of that performance was included in their documentary titled, Pebble in a Pond.  This show is being aired on Charlotte Public Television channel 42-WTVI or Time Warner Cable channel 5.  The documentary tells the history of the Folk Society from inception to present day.

THE CLOERS RECORD FOR FOX STUDIOS IN CHARLOTTE

We are truly humbled to have been asked to come to the FOX Charlotte Studios to record a TV Pilot for a new show about musicians.  We were one of two acts asked to perform 5 or 6 orginal songs to showcase North Carolina performing songwriters.  We have posted a couple of the videos from the day under the videos section of this website.  We hope you enjoy watching them as much as we enjoyed being there and recording with the FOX Charlotte crew.  They were the best!!

THE CLOERS NAMED SINGER SONGWRITERS OF THE YEAR

The Cloers receive Singer Songwriter of the Year from the Charlotte Music Awards

It was such a honor to be nominated for a Charlotte Music Award, much less win the Best Singer Songwriter showcase.  Along with all of the winners from each category, we were asked to perform at the 2010 Charlotte Music Awards Red Carpet Event held on December 8, 2010 at CPCC Halton Theater.  You can check the Charlotte Music Awards website http://www.charlottemusicawards.org to see all of the winners in each category.  Thank you Charlotte Music Awards, and thank you to everyone who joined us on this special night.

THE CLOERS AWARDED A GRANT TO RECORD CD

Well, BIG news guys. We wrote a regional artist project grant proposal for our first acoustic CD project, The Wanderlust, and actually GOT IT!!!  WHOO HOO!!! We are so honored to have been selected by the Arts and Science Council (ASC) as one of their choice projects to fund for the year.  We will be working on it throughout the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011, and it will be ready for distribution in March 2011. Thank you also to the NC Arts Council, the Arts Council for North Carolina who supports local Arts Councils throughout our state. Through their generosity, we are looking forward to seeing our dream of a full length project become a reality.
